Trouble in Paradise?

Some folks think this is a gopher...
some speculate a rat. Why a rat?
Because the plants above are not damaged.

That, and the fact that we had a rat
invade our BBQ this winter. Eeeeewwww!

Under the cucumber plants is the mound
of dirt left by the invader.

Next to this activity is the bowl, holding
the remnants from the bird feeder. Hmmm.
Peanuts. Must get finch feed next time.

Garden Update

Volunteer pumpkin patch from last year's pumpkins.

Five or six pumpkins coming on, these are the bluish on the outside Jarradale, I believe.

I cleaned up the strawberry patch in preparation for new
soaker hose drip irrigation and microbark installation.

I cannot seem to grow tomatoes. All of them look pathetic and just sit there.
The green leaves in the front are a new plant I planted to try to replace the sad
yellowing one with the fruit. Everything else is green and happy, not so
the tomatoes. The old leftovers at Lowe's and Home Depot are three feet
tall and putting on glorious fruit--and are growing in one gallon pots.

Mine are in expensive "Square Foot Garden" mix, and look strangled.

Welcome

Well, here goes, my first entry into the blogverse.

What am I doing? Well, in no particular order...
  • Yesterday I tidied up my garden...the pumpkin patch shown below has completely filled in the "box"! (More photos to follow)
  • I need to clear out my car, the Matrix, because since Dennis just retired, I can save the family some bucks on gas by switching over to the Prius. I will mostly miss the six CD player in the Matrix as I always listen to books-on-tape. Currently I am listening to book 15 of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, and I have the new book, #16 waiting in the wings.

  • I am working on a "simple" dress, McCall's 9172 "1-Hour Dress." http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m9172-products-7171.php I am making it from a linen/cotton blend from Denver fabrics. I am to the point of sewing on the sleeves, then pockets, (I know, shoulda done them long ago, but I want to place them exactly once done), button loop and button, and hem! The button loop is kind of an oddity, and I have been working on it for many more than one hour, but I am learning, gall durn it!

  • Also, I hope we will get a call from the podiatrist's office letting me know that the two strange walking boots will be ready for us to pick up. That oughta be fun for our trip to Vegas this weekend! I overdid it with my walking regime, and have to take a couple of months off for physical therapy. Yeesh.
And, finally...
  • I would like to get back to finishing what started out as a quilt square for a boss that was leaving and morphed into a strange art object, a beaded Apple Logo!

Cheers!
